Introductory Rides

Intrigued by Foxhunting but not sure how to get started?

Never ridden in our beautiful countryside, but would like to try it?

Summer Hound Exercise

Join us for Summer Hound Exercise. These rides are a good time to introduce those who might like to try hunting or riding in the country in a group. And for those who rode a long time ago and want to get back in the saddle!

It is a great way to meet new people, see our hunt country, or expose a new horse. Or bring your old campaigner for the beauty and camaraderie!

The ride is designed for people who feel confident at the walk, trot, and a controlled canter.

Rides leave the Myopia Kennel promptly at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 4 through August 10, and last about an hour. Casual Attire is appropriate.

For more information, contact Alison Crocker, amcrocker@comcast.net.

Men's Rides

Men, enjoy the camaraderie of our Men's Rides. The rides are a good time to introduce new riders and horses to a group, or just to enjoy the companionship of your friends.

For more information, contact Haskell Crocker, hcrocker@vimac.com.

History of Fox Hunting

Fox Hunting began in the U.S. in Maryland in 1650. Englishman Robert Brooke was the first man to import hounds to America. At the same time, the European Red Fox was introduced to the eastern seaboard for the sole purpose of Fox Hunting.

The Myopia Hunt, with traditions dating back to the year 1992, bean as both a live and a drag hunt. Today, it is a drag hunt with no live quarry. A line of scent is laid for the hounds to hunt which showcases the artistry of training and hunting foxhounds and offers many opportunities for members of the field to view the hounds at work. The original Myopia hounds, ten couple, were imported from England and today are divided evenly between English and American/English crossbreds.

This program will enable you to experience the excitement and tradition of this historic sport!
