Myopia Hunter Trials
The Myopia Hunter Trials offer an opportunity to gallop across country and negotiate hunt field obstacles. The courses are inviting and consist of fences and obstacles typically found in our hunt country. All are invited to join us.
The goal of the Trials is to demonstrate your horse's suitability for the hunt field. Horses are judged at each obstacle based on their form and style of jumping,
their manners and way of going, and their obedience and efficient execution of various tests, including a gate opening, lead over, and hold hard. Participants should remember that the hounds are running and these obstacles should be dealt with in a timely manner.
Riders who have successfully completed the 2'6" course at the Novice Hunter Trials will be ready for the inviting 2'9" Novice course. Those ready for a further challenge will enjoy the 3'3" course. Our Masters' Division offers a true challenge for our amateur subscribers at 3'9".
At the end of the day, enjoy a delicious potluck and presentation of the Myopia Hunter Trial ribbons.
We need fence judges! Enjoy the day as a volunteer. It is fascinating to watch horse and rider teams negotiate our hunt jumps, and to learn what makes a good field hunter. Experience is not necessary; new judges are paired with our experienced veterans of many years.

Novice and Junior Hunter Trials
* Ride Cross Country Over Inviting Fences
* Awards
* Lunch Available
* Divisions for all Ages and Skill Levels
The Junior and Novice Hunter Trials offer young riders and adults a Hunter Trial experience over small fences, and provides an excellent opportunity for novice riders and green horses to experience a cross-country course. The courses are inviting and consist of fences typically found in our hunt country.
There is a division for everyone at this event. Our novice riders last year ranged in age from 5 to 64!
The youngest child and their pony can participate in a Flat Class, a set pattern of walking and trotting, or enjoy the Cross rails-in-the-Grass, 4 to 6 cross rails, not to exceed 18".
Junior and Novice riders who are ready for their first cross-country experience will find it here. Enjoy a course of 8 to 10 natural jumps, 18" to 20" in height. This is also a great opportunity for experienced riders to introduce green horses to the country in our Open Division.
We have added a new division this year. The Children’s Companion 20” Low Hunter Division offers children an opportunity to ride the course with a friend or escorted by an adult. Those children going cross country for the first time can gain confidence by riding with a companion. Children riding together will be judged individually. Adult companions will not be judged and there is no fee for accompanying the children.
For those ready to go out into the country alone, we have the Children and Junior Low Hunter Division.
Those ready for a little more challenge will enjoy the 2'3" to 2'6" course, which offers changing terrain and 14 to 16 typical hunt fences, including coops, logs, stone walls, panels, rails and brush jumps. Again, divisions are offered for Juniors, Novice adults, and experienced riders with green horses.
After your ride, enjoy a yummy picnic and presentation of the Myopia Novice Hunter Trial ribbons.
We need fence judges! Enjoy the day as a volunteer. Join the picnic! Witness the smiles of the juniors and adults.
