Title About Us

Huntsman Richard Emmott

Please stop by the Kennel to welcome Myopia’s new Huntsman, Richard Emmott.

RichardRichard has been huntsman at the York & Ainsty South (pure-bred Old English hounds) for the last seven seasons, and says he leaves good friends behind—both canine and human. Richard brings to Myopia a stallion hound from the York South and a couple of young bitches to breed. He says these hounds will play a big part in his plans to create a new pack.

Richard has lots of varied experience. His career began at the South Wold with David Anke, as kennel-man and terrier man. Then he whipped-in for the Woodland Pytchley; the Crawley and Horsham under John Goode for two years; Pytchley under Peter Jones (which is the area he is from, and where he made lasting friends with Bruce Durno); Flint and Denbigh; a year as KH at the Derwent; and a year as KH at the Dumfriesshire.

Kennelman William Green

Richard is ably assisted by Kennelman, William Green, who joined Myopia for the 2007 season and has already made a strong contribution with the hounds and in the countryside. William came to us from South Carolina, where his family has a long tradition with drag hunting.

Myopia Foxhounds

The Myopia Foxhound pack was established in 1882. The first pack consisted of 10 couple of English Foxhounds, imported from Lord Whilloughby de Broke's Warwickshire Hunt in England. The first kennel was located at the Myopia Clubhouse in Winchester, but soon moved to the current location in Hamilton.

Today, the Myopia pack consists of 18 couple of Foxhounds, of which 7 couple are English, 10 couple Crossbred, and 1 couple Penn-Marydel. The Myopia Hounds have distinguished themselves with their confirmation, obedience, and speed at the New England Hunts' Hound Shows and the New England Hound Races. The pack will continue to develop under Richard’s breeding program.

The Myopia hounds go out with horses sixty days each year and walk out with the hunt staff on all other days throughout the year.

The Kennel has housed hounds for over 100 years, and was completely renovated in 2003. There are three lodges, each with an outside run.
